Here is a rare ‘Libreville’, marked ‘Charleville’, manufactured French model 1763, flintlock, service pistol in good used condition.
In November 1793 the Municipal Prosecutor ( Commune Procureur ) from the National Convention Committee ( Comite de la Convention National ) ordered that the name of the town known as Charleville be changed to Libreville. This name change was very short lived as it appears that the name reverted back to Charleville by May 1795, making this a very rare version of the model 1763.
The .67 caliber, round, smoothbore barrel measure 9 inches while the whole pistol measures 16 inches. The barrel tang is clearly engraved ‘M1763’.
The flat lock features a re-enforced flat cock and faceted flash pan and is clearly engraved ‘M.re de / Libreville’. The action is still in good working order.
The iron furniture including the spring retained barrel band and original rammer are all in good condition.
The full-length, walnut stock is in a good used condition with one small chip missing near the tail of the lock. See photos.
A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine veteran of the French Revolution
Sold as a collector item only.
Price includes shipping in Australia, layby available.
