An excellent flintlock holster, or Officer, pistol from one of London’s finest gunmakers, John Fox Twigg. Twigg operated in London from 1760 till around 1788.
The .72 caliber, smoothbore barrel measures 9 inches with the whole pistol measuring 14 inches. The barrel has front and rear sights, engraved breech band, Birmingham proof and ‘LONDON’ engraved on the top flat.
The stepped, flat lock and cock have very fine boarder line engraving with ‘TWIGG’ engraved under the flash pan. The cock and top jaw also have fine teeth for griping the flint.
The lock is in good working order.
The brass trigger guard and rammer pipes are in good condition.
The full-length stock with its flattened side grip, is also in a very good used condition.
Note: there is an expert repair under the engraved second lock retaining screw.
The bone tipped rammer with worm appears to be original to the pistol.
Late 18th century pistols are not often found in this good a condition.
