For sale, on consignment, an exceptionally fine example of a WW Greener Facile Princeps action double rifle in 577/500 No. 2 2-13/16" Black Powder Express.
WW Greener records show double rifle 34161 was built for Mr A.J. Adams of Sydney, New South Wales and was despatched to him on 31 May 1892.
Lock
• Facile Princeps break action box lock non-ejector [extractor]
• Action engraved “WW Greener” retaining much of the original case hardening colour
• Firm right hand top lever
• Greener cross bolt
• Greener manual side safety
• Twin trigger
Stock
• Well figured walnut stock, with semi-pistol grip
• Length of pull 14 3/8” to centre
• Fine, flat top chequer with mullered border
• Engraved steel butt plate
• Sling eye
• Walnut for-end with crisp chequer, horn tip and firm Deeley & Edge catch
Barrels
• Greener elephant trademarked 28” blacked steel side by side barrels with bright clean bores with sharp rifling – blacking faded/rubbed in patches
• Raised matt rib engraved with “Patent Treble Wedge Fast”
• Open rear sights with one express iron sight and three folding leaf sights for 100, 200 and 500 yards with inlaid sight lines and a bead fore-sight
• Birmingham Proof House marks show the rifle was proven for black powder
This rifle super accurate rifle presents in excellent gently used original condition, with minor cosmetic handling and storage marks commensurate with age.
The rifle appears to have had little use and has been very well maintained. The barrels are tight on the standing breech.
The rifle comes cased – bearing a very nice Greener trade label – with some vintage accessories, including reloading dies and 50 cartridge cases.
