'The gun that won the West'
That was a marketing slogan that became reality, highlighting the immense popularity & role in westward expansion the Winchester Model 1873 played in US history.
The Winchester Model 1873 SRC (Saddle Ring Carbine) is known as an iconic lever action rifle chambered for the versatile .44-40 cartridge that was used in Colt revolvers meaning you only needed to carry the single calibre, simplifying ammunition for cowboys, lawmen, frontiersmen & outlaws alike.
The .44-40 Cartridge was Winchester's first centrefire metallic cartridge & was a bottlenecked, rimmed cartridge with a .427" bullet. The ballistics were suitable for its intended use, with lower black powder pressures allowing for its use in both rifles & revolvers.
This particular rifle was manufactured in 1883 & as such is a what is known as a 2nd Model.
It is in original, unrestored condition as can be seen in the photos & remarkably, comes with the original Winchester 3 piece cleaning rod in the stock, adding to its desirability & according to the information obtained from board members of the Winchester Arms Collectors Association (WACA), adding around 25% to its value!
Correctly, it features a 20-inch round barrel, oil-finished walnut stock & blued steel which has turned to a nice grey patina as can be seen in the photos.
This rifle was part of a deceased estate which included a large & quite extensive Winchester collection which we are trying to re-home with a Winchester collector who knows the value this represents.
We are not going to try & rate the condition out of 100 as everyone seems to have a different opinion on what the percentages should be, so we'll let the pictures be the description. You will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.
We think we have described it accurately & correctly but do not claim to be infallible so if we have got anything wrong, it is unintentional.
Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an 'as is' basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
Standard cost for shipping to metro locations is $75 & all guns are sent via StarTrack without insurance but packed very well.
