Pocket by Edward Dyball of Norwich c1840

An elegant, brass framed, drop-down trigger percussion pocket pistol by Edward Dyball of Norwich made around 1840. Edward is recorded as working in Norwich at Briggs Street in 1835 and Castle Ditches in 1841. The .45 caliber, octagonal, screw off, smooth bore barrel measures 2 inches with the whole pistol measuring 6 inches. The barrel is stuck fast. The round edge frame has Amaranthus engraving and Birmingham proof marks. The names ‘DYBALL’ and ‘NORWICH’ are engraved in scrolls either side of the pistol. The action is in stiff working order and features a sliding safety which is also stuck fast. Note that the tang screw is missing. The smooth rounded grip with an engraved white metal echelon is in good condition. There does seem to be a repair on the left side next to the frame. This may explain the missing screw. Also stamped next to the repair is the name ‘CRISP’. Sold as a collector item only. Price includes shipping in Australia, layby available.
