Gold Fields 1851 Colt Navy c1852

This 3rd Model, Colt 1851 Navy percussion revolver with a home-made period case and interesting oral history that warrants further research. Oral history states that this revolver belonged to a Francis C Harding who was an American gold miner who settled around the Castlemaine & Maldon districts. The revolver carries all the standard features of the 3rd model. All matching numbers of 18006, including the wedge. The number dates this revolver’s manufacture to 1852. The ‘COLTS / PATENT’ and one line address ‘ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY’ are clear. The cylinder scene is worn. See photos. The walnut grips are in very good condition, as are the back strap and trigger guard. Both of which have copious amounts of silvering. Scratched onto the right side, barrel lug are the letter ‘F H’ standing for Francis Harding. The action is in good working order with good indexing and lock up. The cylinder still has safety pin remnants. The revolver comes with a later, period case that appears to be home-made. The case includes a 19th century, Colt Navy type powder flask by Bartram & Co of Shefield, a repo bullet mould, oil bottle, cuff links and two dice. Sold as a collector item only.
