LOT.500 ELMER KEITH'S PERSONAL SHARPS & CO 1877 FALLING BLOCK RIFLE: 45-120SHPS; this Sharps 1877 Long Range rifle with serial number 160244, is famously known as legendary gun writer Elmer Keith’s preferred “Traditional Rifle”. It is extraordinarily rare and noted by auctioneers as one of only two known to exist today in this configuration. Following the disposition of the Elmer Keith Estate, this historic firearm was sold at auction by James D. Julia Auctioneers in March 2015. Its 34-inch round barrel has an excellent bore and the stock is beautifully figured Claro American walnut with checkered pistol grip (black serpentine inset) and fore end with ebony tip. It is fitted with a wind gauge globe front sight and 5-inch vernier tang sight not numbered to this rifle. Top of the barrel is marked with the Sharps 'Old reliable' cartouche and Bridgeport address. This rifle is in superb condition with original case colours and bluing virtually intact. The stock shows some minor handling marks. It has a wonderful patina and shows minimal wear.
