Arrieta y Cia of Elgoibar, Spain - For sale, on consignment, a superb example of the Arrieta Model 803 12 bore sidelock ejector shotgun.
Hand made in 1996, in Arrieta’s Elgoibar work rooms this Model 803 – Arrieta’s top-selling model - presents in excellent, gently used condition.
Lock
Nine pin re-enforced sidelock with hand detachable lock plates
Crisp, twin triggers
Disc-set strikers
Gold inlaid cocking indicators
Firm, engraved fences and right-hand top lever
Manual safety button to top tang
Magnificent Purdey style rose and scroll hand engraving – probably by Eduardo Arambura, Arrieta’s then Chief Engraver – to lock and base plates, trigger guard
Stock
Beautifully figured European walnut – Arrieta source the finest walnut timber from Spain, Turkey and California – slight cast off for right hand shot
Straight English grip with tear drops and crisp, classic point-pattern chequering and an unsigned silver escutcheon
Length of Pull to centre is 14 5/8” or 372 mm
Chequered butt
Well figured walnut splinter forend – again with crisp classic point pattern chequering
Firm engraved Anson release latch and forend iron
Barrels
Side by side 29” or 73.66 cm chopper lump steel barrels with perfect deep gloss blue
Perfect bright mirror bores gauge .726” and .726” 9” from the breech
Sound tapered game rib with brass bead fore sight
Choked Improved Cylinder or 1/4 and Improved Modified or 3/4
70mm or 2 ¾” chambers
Strong, well-timed ejectors
The manufacturer has kindly advised the gun was finished on 14 November 1996 – being the 441st gun they produced that year
Eibar Proof House marks show the gun was nitro-proven for superior or magnum 1200 bar loads.
This shotgun presents in excellent, gently used condition – with only the slightest cosmetic handling and storage marks. The barrels fit tightly on the standing breech.
The shotgun comes in a Arrieta brass cornered, leather fitted case with snap caps and cleaning rod.
