For sale, on consignment, a very rare and desirable Oberndorf Mauser Model M96 rifle in .308 WIN - Not the revered 1896 model but the model of 1996.
These rifles were a short production run model manufactured for only three years 1996 to 1999.
The rifle is chambered in 308 Winchester, arguably Australia's favourite multi-purpose, centre fire round.
Quick to load and fast cycling through a revolution design that incorporated the bolt with a rotating head and 16 locking lugs giving it a stronger lockup the ’98 Mauser.
The operating bolt is easy to cycle to and fro although the bolt can even be cycled by pushing the rear of the bolt with your hand, self-locking when coming into battery. The bolt must be actuated to the rear to open the action. Rear sliding tang safe is conveniently placed.
The timber is in very good condition with minor, cosmetic handling marks and no deep bruising. Checkering is sharp and comfortable with a palm swell for the right hand shot. Iron sights are precise. The bore is clean, bright and shiny.
These rifles are beautifully put together, silky smooth to operate, quick to cycle and re-load. Accuracy is wonderful with the NSW owner winning events and taking game at longer ranges with ease. Mauser quality, say no more.

The receiver is drilled and tapped for Rem 700 pattern mounts which are fitted to suit weaver/ picatinny rings.
