For sale on consignment, a spectacular example of a William Evans (from Purdey) 450/400 3 1/4” Ejector Double Rifle.

This William Evans double rifle circa 1904 presents in excellent original condition.

The rifle is chambered in the 3 ¼” cartridge. This rifle is investment grade condition and one in the finest fine double rifles we have ever offered for sale.

For those with a .375 that want to hunt Buffalo in the NT or Africa….it is an advantage to use a bigger rifle. The 375H&H leaves no margin in case of a charge. I have personally seen a few well shot Buff trot off into the bush because the 375 drills a deep hole, however, if not placed perfectly, is way behind the 400 for Knock Down Energy.

The action is highly desirable Webley “Screw Grip” action with a long bar and two triggers. It also features disc set strikers and automatic safety.

The trigger bow extends to the solid steel grip cap. The 26 inch barrels are tight on the standing breech and the bores are near perfect, bright & shiny.

The barrels are joined with a full length “File-Cut Rib” with one standing and two folding leaves to 300 yds. The flip up night sight is a 3mm diameter. The lettering on top of the barrels says: William Evans form Purdey, 63 Pall Mall, St. James, London.

The action sides feature beautiful scroll engraving and are signed "William Evans From Purdey's London".

The engraving is full coverage and magnificent. Please zoom in on the closeup pictures. The rifle has never been rusted or brushed and has sharp lettering with Purdey seemingly endorsing William Evans (previously, their employee) products.

Beautiful English Walnut with fiddle back and pistol hand. The splinter fore-end has a Lever Release and teardrops with lovely sharp checkering with side bolsters.

It has a 13 ¾” inch length of pull with spacers and weighs a perfect 10.5Lbs.

As mentioned the rifle is in wonderful condition for a 120-year-old Nitro Rifle. Full London proof marks on flats showing 60gns. Cordite and 400gn. projectile.

Supplied with loading dies, 40 cases and loaded rounds if picked up.

Price plus transfers and shipping to your licenced firearm dealer.
