A rare model of the flintlock pistol that was carried by the Coastguard and Customs officers as protection against arms smuggler in the early 1800s. This pistol was made by the government contractor, Thomas Barnett, who had a workshop in the Minories near the Tower of London, were he made arms for the Board of Ordinance and the East India Company.
The .65 caliber, round, flat top, smoothbore barrel measures 4 ½ inches with the whole pistol measuring around 9 ½ inches. The barrel has a beaded front sight, London proofs and a swivel rammer hinged at the muzzle.
The lock is clearly marked ‘BARNETT’ and features a semi-rainproof flash pan, sliding safety and ring-neck cock. The safety is stiff and the roller of the frizzen is absent. The action is in good working order.
The walnut stock is in good condition as is the brass furniture including the inset, oval, butt cap with attached swivel.
