William Evans of Pall Mall, London 16 Bore Shotgun 3312

For sale, on consignment, a lovely example of a William Evans of 63 Pall Mall, St James, London 16 bore box lock ejector shotgun.

Hand-made circa 1896 by Webley & Scott for William Evans, this shotgun presents in very good, refurbished condition.

Lock

Webley screw grip break open action - box lock ejector
Disc set strikers
Crisp, twin triggers
Firm right-hand top lever
Manual gold inlaid “Safe” safety button to top tang
Fine foliate hand engraving to side, base plates and trigger guard
Side plates engraved: “William Evans from Purdey’s London”


Stock

Beautifully figured European walnut – slight cast off for right hand shooter
Straight English grip with tear drops and crisp, classic point-pattern chequering and an unsigned gold escutcheon
Length of Pull to centre is approximately 14 ¼” or 36 cm
Horn butt plate
Well figured walnut splinter forend – again with crisp classic point pattern chequering
Firm engraved Anson pushrod release latch and engraved forend iron

Side by side 28” or 71 cm re-blacked steel barrels with Doll's head extension
Engraved “William Evans from Purdey’s 63 Pall Mall, St James, London”
London Proof House marks show the gun was nitro proven for 1 1/8 oz loads
Bright, clean bores well within proof - gauging approximately 16.96 mm [R] and 16.94 mm [L] about 9” from the breech
Sound tapered game rib with brass bead fore sight
Choked Cylinder [R] and Full [L]
2 ½” or 65 mm chambers
Strong, well-timed ejectors

This shotgun presents in very good well maintained and gently used condition – with only the slight cosmetic handling and storage marks. The barrels fit tightly on the standing breech.

The shotgun comes in a period correct leather case an original William Evans trade label, cleaning rod and snap caps.

Altogether a very nice, collectable sub-gauge British shotgun.
