For sale, on consignment, a genuine “Westley Richards” built sporting bolt action rifle built on a classic Mauser 98 action.
The rifle is chambered for the legendary .318 Accelerated Express cartridge. This example is a “Take Down” model with a lever on the right-hand side of the fore-end and a takedown screw in front of the floor plate that when removed, allows the barrelled action to be lifted clear of the stock.
Its blacked 25 ½ inch steel barrel is fitted with an express rear sight with one standing sight marked 100, 4 folding leaves marked 200, 300, 400 & 500 yards, and an island base tipped blade front sight.
Bore and chamber are good with the strong rifling slightly black in the grooves.
Top of barrel is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON." ahead of the rear sight and a triangle ahead of the front receiver ring.
The underside of the barrel is marked with Birmingham Proof House marks ".318 2.40”and "CORDITE 37–250 MAX".
Left side of the front receiver ring is beautifully lettered with serial number "LT39276" over "WESTLEY RICHARDS" over "318 ACCELERATED" over "EXPRESS" and serial number.
The bolt shroud has a 3-position Flag Type Safety. The steel floor plate and trigger guard are nicely blacked with a lever release.
The reddish-brown walnut stock lightly figured has a pistol hand with trapped steel grip plate (with original pull through in place) and eyes for a sling and horn tipped fore-end. The stock could do with a clean and refinish and the checkering lifted. 14-5/8” length of pull. Trigger is factory two stage with a 4 ½ lb. release.
The rifle is supplied with projectiles and 20 cases. Also included is 8 original boxes of Kynock new loaded rounds.
