The Pixfra Volans is the digital day/night rifle optic that does round-the-clock hunting without the thermal-scope price tag. Full-colour daytime mode, low-light mode, night vision mode — switch on the fly. Pair it with the optional 850nm or 940nm IR torch and you're spotting eyeshine past 400 metres like someone's flicked on a stadium light.
Four variants — pick where you sit:
PFI-V850 — the base unit, no torch — $1,190
PFI-V850-LRF — adds a built-in 1,000m laser rangefinder — no more guessing holdovers
PFI-V850 Package — adds the IR torch
PFI-V850-LRF Package — LRF + torch, the flagship — $1,490
What's actually in the unit:
1920×1080 HD CMOS sensor — sharp enough to read whiskers on a fox at 200m
0.49" OLED display — bright, crisp, easy on the eyes after hours behind glass
Digital zoom to 8x — pull the mob in to pick the boar that matters
Built-in video and photo recording — keep the brag, check the shot placement
WiFi + app connectivity — share the view or stream to a device
IP67-rated — waterproof, dustproof, pig-proof
Recoil-tested to .308 and 12ga — slap it on the roo-thumper, go nuts
18650 rechargeable batteries with USB-C charging — modern, easy, replaceable
Picatinny mount system included
The smart-money positioning: a flagship handheld thermal scope (HikMicro Stellar, Nocpix Ace, Pulsar Thermion) runs $6,000 to $7,500 — for true thermal. The Volans isn't thermal, it's a digital day/night intensifier — which means for $1,190 to $1,490 you get the same round-the-clock job done at a fraction of the spend. Not as good as thermal in fog or pure black. Plenty for fox spotlighting, pig recon by torch, deer stalking at first and last light, and feral pest control across a property. For most Australian pest-control work, it's the right answer for the budget.
Who it's built for: Pest controllers running long nights. Pig hunters scanning paddocks from the ute tray. Deer stalkers picking heads at first and last light. Landowners sick of playing torch tag with foxes.
