Serial No. 37,276 of approximately 1.2 million manufactured.
Calipers measure .310"/.311" max, bore diameter at the muzzle. Rare to find an original this tight in tolerances. Plenty of rifling visible down the bore. The only part replaced by the Weedon Factory prior WW2 is the Extractor Claw that bears the star mark.
The rifle has been Sporterised and has open sights on the barrel and a very nice walnut stock fitted with no additional bedding to the action. I had to remove a high comb on the butt so I could dial the sights in. This rifle shot 1.450" Group at 100 meters with the open sights, which is almost unbelievable!!! see Pic.
This rifle will make an excellent sambar rifle that has plenty of life left in it. Rare to find a sporter as good as this one, with matching low serial numbers. A pleasure to shoot and would get plenty of interest down at the range as well.
for all those military purists, too bad too sad, this is an excellent go hunting now rifle, as they should be !!!
