This is a rare & unique example of an interwar No. 1 Mk III SMLE made in the Indian Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI) not long after WW1 & later inspected & factory refinished in 1939, as indicated by the stamp FR on the wrist & then in 1951 at Lithgow.
Despite undergoing the FTR process twice (at least), this rifle has matching numbers on the bolt, receiver, barrel (numbered & fitted by Lithgow in 1951), nose cap & stock!
It has various Broad Arrow markings including the 'GRI' which indicates it was an earlier production rifle as this stands for 'George Rex India', otherwise known as 'The King'.
This helps date this as an early rifle along & the slot for the magazine cut off supports this.
We thought '51' on the fore wood was an armoury rack number but we now believe is related to its refurbishment in 1951 at Lithgow.
The stock has faint SLAZ 44 stamps underneath, just behind the trigger guard indicating replacement by MA Lithgow in 1944 which may have been done during the FTR in '51?
The bore is a little dark but has no visible nastiness & deep rifling, as you'd hope for with a replacement barrel
This would be a unique addition to any Enfield collection.
Do your own research & you will know if this is for you so view the photos carefully & make your decision based on what you see as they form the main description & override all written information. Ask for more if desired.
Whilst we check these out for serviceability, the warranty has expired & this is sold on an ‘as is’ basis. As with all used guns, we recommend you have this checked by a suitably qualified person prior to shooting.
Standard shipping via Startrack is $110 & your rifle will not be broken down but sent intact.
