A new Chiappa reproduction of the famed 1860 Spencer rifle in carbine configuration, chambered in .44/40WIN. An old West classic, Civil War icon, and technical milestone for the world of firearms technology. This rifle bears significant provenance to historians and collectors for being one of the most influential firearms during the conflicts of the US Civil War. Designed by one Christopher Spencer in the year 1860, the rifle was originally never intended to be fielded, until the personal request of a demonstration at DC was demanded by none other than President Abraham Lincoln. The trial exampled the rifles effectiveness and staggering ability to put down intense rates of fire (as compared to the muzzle-loading rifles that were predominantly issued at the time), and was subsequently adopted. Over 200,000 were manufactured, and it is argued that it was one of the greatest aides to the North's victory over the South. The Chiappa recreation not only pays ohmage to the original design, but gives the rifle a bit of pizazz with the addition of some gorgeously case colour-hardened components, a gloss coated walnut furniture set, and a nicely reflective deep-blued 20" barrel.
